Crocs vs. Alligators?

Can anyone clarify the difference for me? I suppose I can Google it, but thought that some nice cyber-patron could help out?

They literally are in our backyard (The Barefoot Landing Lake) and while taking pictures, a small boy asked me if I knew what the difference was. I furrowed my brow and looked at him with a blank expression. Um...well...you see...(cue chirping crickets)...no, I guess.

So is there anyone out there who can enlighten me? Thanks, and then I can feel like Einstein when the kiddies come asking.
